In Memory of Ellie
There are many dogs who have suffered over the years at Rutland Manor, none more so than Ellie. In only 4 years this magnificent Poodle was forced to have 9 litters back to back with never any rest, she was nothing more than a breeding machine, her puppies sold for thousands and made Rutland Manor a fortune. She was never ever shown any compassion she was viewed as a mere money making machine. Ellie was debarked, standard practice at RM.
This is the horrendous truth of Rutland Manor Labradoodle Breeding and Research Centre.
Rutlands Alecia or “Ellie” was born 11th August 1999. Sire “Rutlands Chimney Sweep” (miniature poodle) Dam “Elite of Rutland Manor” later called “Rutlands Elite”
- 1st Litter 28th February 2001 to Shannon, 2 puppies from this litter included Rutlands Puffin who was mated at 10 months old and Rutlands Shu Shu who was first mated at 9 months old to Rutlands Copper Art (96% poodle). Their daughter Rutland Snuggles was mated at 10 months old.

52 puppies ! Anyone in any doubt that Rutland Manor is in fact a puppy farm that obviously has no concern or compassion for their breeding dogs? Does anyone still believe Beverley’s claims that she retires her dogs early after 2 or 3 litters? What “research” was Rutland Manor undertaking with this poor dog?
If you have one of these puppies from Ellie, hold them close, the story is about to get worse.
We cannot tell you the names of Ellie’s final 6 puppies. They never had a name and like their Mum they were never afforded compassion, love or human companionship.
The final story of what happened to Ellie’s 6 puppies may never be known. It involves pure greed, lies, revenge and typical fabricated diversions away from the truth.
We can tell you what we have discovered so far through extensive research by our dedicated team and police documents released under Freedom of Information. The police file remains open.

It is alleged that Ellie was sold in whelp to Beverley’s neighbor Trish Male in about January 2005. Trish and Alan Male were neighbors but also part of the “RM Family” for years until they had a falling out with Beverley. On 24th April 2005, Trish Male reported a burglary and theft from her property in Darnum. Ellie and her puppies worth $125,0oo were stolen. This wasn’t the first time Ellie was allegedly stolen from Trish either, 2 months earlier Ellie was stolen from another house apparently Trish managed to get her back. Around this time Bev was claiming Ellie belonged to her.It appears as though Ellie became a valuable bargaining tool in the Darnum neighborhood war.

I am distraught this morning. I had a long drive up country last night to see a doctor and when I drove back home it was to the news that Ellie has been stolen. She is due to have her second litter of babies to Dippa on 8th March and I’m so worried for her.

Ellie was staying with Sue until Alan and Trish move to Queensland. They are selling their property to me. We didn’t want her to get upset watching all the moving of furniture etc when she is so close to having her babies and we were planning on retiring Ellie and letting Trish and Alan have her once her puppies are weaned. The thief forced entry at Sue’s home and took Ellie.
Around the time of the first theft of Ellie the Males and Beverley commenced court proceedings, the case is still before the Supreme Court in Melbourne and the Males have refused to speak to us for this reason. Of course we are expecting Beverley to speak out about Ellie, attack and threaten and then create another diversion to take the focus away from her dogs (like she is doing now with her current neighbors).
On 30th June 2008 Derek Cunningham, Beverley’s son-in-law, was charged with Ellie’s theft. He appeared in Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court and was given a 12 month good behavior bond and ordered to pay the RSPCA $400, no conviction was recorded.

It is also alleged by numerous sources closely involved at the time that Ellie was shot dead along with her 6 puppies. Some have alleged the 6 puppies were spared and were sold overseas.
In April 2005 Beverley her daughter Angela and her son-in-law Derek were still on talking terms. So why would Derek allegedly steal and kill one of Beverley’s valuable dogs?
Or if Trish Male was the true owner of Ellie why would Beverley’s son-in-law allegedly steal and shoot Beverley’s neighbors dog and puppies? Could it be due to the court case and ongoing neighbor dispute?
We may never know the truth but one thing is for sure Ellie was not loved or shown any compassion while she was a Rutland Manor breeding machine.
For those of you who purchased an Ellie puppy know that they are special, not because they are “Rutland Manor” nor because of the thousands you paid, they are special because they have a piece of Ellie, a dog that gave her entire life to RM’s bank account and who paid the ultimate price of this greed.
Hug and cherish your dogs and never forget their Mum, the beautiful Ellie.
The more I kept reading of this the more my heart was sinking, I can’t say anymore at the moment as it’s far to upsetting.
Rest in peace now Ellie, you will suffer no more.

9 back to back litters in 4 years, totaling 52 puppies for this magnificent and debarked beautiful girl and then sold “in whelp”. It doesn’t get much worse for the life of a RM breeding dog does it.
And so many names that I am now so familiar with from Ellie. Rutlands Yogi Bear I remember from the ‘horror’ story of Rutland’s Lil Yogi Bean -after enduring many pregnancies throughout a long cruel illness of Hepatitis finally put down in the middle of the night.
The Request for Assistance from the Police includes details regarding a horse float containing a dog and her 6 puppies – I recall all Beverly’s recent dog movements have been in a horse float. Who owned this horse float ? Who owned the silver F350 ute ?
Poodles, poodles and more poodles and more court cases and more extreme cruelty and more greed!

I shall never forget the name “Ellie”. To read this and actually see that list of Ellie’s puppies… and then read the rest of Ellie’s story and more helpless pups? This is very tough emotionally.
So to try to grasp this I started searching for ‘A WHY’???
The story of Beverly Manners and Rutland Manor is not one of suspense, a spy thriller, a CSI…but what it IS… one of sadness, CRUELTY, manipulation, lack of complete empathy, vengefulness, and her lack of wholesome core values.
Ellie and all the rest of her breeders are nothing but objects to her – I totally get the “breeding machine” concept. They are meaningless to her. She just provided the very basics to them so that they could continue on with their ‘jobs’. Toys, love, companionship, proper grooming, decent beds, etc. NOPE! The basics only! Her $$$$ came from their pups.
So I started down the path to try to figure out what kind of person would do the things that she has done, for YEARS, and evidence has been found.
First, I thought of all her manipulation and being the victim in every way from A-Z. So I looked up EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION and here is the easiest read on that. For me, it was red flags.

I am not a psychologist nor do I pretend to be. But I do know that there are just too many really horrible things that are connected to her through EVIDENCE. And I do see how she forever paints herself as a victim, etc. and most of her relationships with others fall out if they don’t agree with her or even question her.
She is not a helpless old woman who needs some support. She needs her supporters to do HER bidding for her! She knows exactly what she is doing and will lie, manipulative, deceive, seek revenge, and twist truth every which way.
But Ellie and the rest of her dogs paid a big price for her screwed up head. And yes, in their memory/ongoing life, I am so grateful for this site and also for Prisoners for Profit. It is because of your work, your dedication and your passion that the rest of us will not have to eventually ever see Rutland Manor PUPPY MILL again.
Wow, what a great read the ‘Emotional Manipulator’ is! Given the many years I have read and watched the Rutland Manor ‘saga’, I am amazed at how much what I read hits the Bull’s Eye meter on RM’s owner. Anyone who takes the time to read this will equate ALL OF IT with the owner of RM.
I know there are many followers of RM. I also understand that no matter who goes there and comes back with a ‘clean bill of health’ with regards to the dogs, one cannot ignore the the many claims of the last few years. You cannot ignore the numerous registry failures; nor can you disquise the constant drama as having a bad day. Throw in the familial ‘public’ traumas, the mental depressions, the parade of poor judgements, the auction block sales, the lost or altered pedigrees , the pound purchases for breeding, the unexplainable mood swings, the lies and constant whines of ‘everyone out to get her’ re-enforce emotional manipulation at its best.
Never in the 7 years that I have been breeding Labradoodles have I ever read anything from the RM site, chat or public forum that remotely resembled an apology for all these assorted situations. Excuses by the buckets……but no apologies for the bad deeds done; no ownership for decisions made, nor any truthful explanations for the reasons which triggered the choices. Just manipulative management.
As a breeder of dogs fot profit you’re no less responsible for spreading suffering and misery than any other who generate the 200,000 dogs the RSPCA alone (not counting other pounds/shelters, etc.) slaughters each year. The fake self-righteous justifications don’t wash. Slime is slime.

A bullet or worse awaits most puppy farm breeding dogs when they finish earning, it is so very rare for this fact to become known. The bitches are rarely well enough to be sold and the breeders do not want their crimes known.

Please tell me this isn’t true. It is a nightmare. Ellie was a beautiful, happy little dog who loved and trusted everyone. Beverly swore that she was stolen and even posted a reward for her safe return. To think that she had her destroyed is so stressful, I can barely stand to think about it. The staff and friends around at that time were used as pawns in her little game. They totally believed what she had to say and stood behind her 100%. I can’t stop crying when I read the post about little Ellie. Beverley, if this is true, you deserve everything you are getting and everything that is coming to you.

Ellie was a gorgeous ball of white curls. A gentle little dog who trusted and loved everyone who met her. Keep in mind that she would have known the people who took her. She would have been wagging her tail and jumping up to them for a pat. It’s really hard to think about it. without getting really distressed.
Come on Beverley, speak up. We want to hear what happened to Ellie. Or are you busy praying for forgiveness??? I think It’s too late. God has sent an animal activist to punish you.
Until the proprerty status of animals is abolished then the cruelty, as exemplified by Beverley Manners, will continue. It is no coincidence Manners aligns her personal philosophy with a deity: monotheism validates ‘dominion over every living thing that moves’.
Specific to canine welfare: puppy farmers and other breeders ignore the indisputable facts 1)there are inadequate loving homes for the amount of dogs bred and 2) hundreds of thousands of abandoned healthy dogs are killed each year.
The Lort Smith Animal Home has the motto “Don’t breed or buy whilst homeless pets die” for good reason.

Next Sunday sees the first day of Advent – Christmas is upon us and bright young puppies are waving their tails at us through pet shop windows pleading with us with puppy dog eyes. We need to broadcast this is not acceptable.
If we are moved by the story of Ellie she is a martyr, a symbol encouraging possible change, a catalyst calling us to action. If we do nothing we consent to, and silently approve of, the torture and slaughter of those amongst us more sinned against than sinning. We know better. We can do better than witness.
Christmas is upon us, this is the eleventh hour. And after Christmas? Many of the innocent will be thrown out with the wrapping paper.
The tragedy of Ellie is a timely warning.
I have a laboradoodle. He is 4 years old. When I purchased him I wasn’t aware of the terrible puppy farming industry. I love my boy like a child but will NEVER purchase a “designer” dog again because of these horror stories that I hear so much about. It’s a cruel, greedy industry and it’s getting worse. So many animals in different situations are affected. I pray for all the dogs in situations like Ellie. And I pray that legislation protects these dogs in the future.

It is NOT because of the ‘designer’ status at all. It is the greed and ‘sickness’ of the breeder. You cannot lump the horrific experiences bestowed by some breeders on their animals as the rule.
Take heart that there are many very good breeders producing these lovely animals with care and love so that many more deserving people can enjoy the companionship of a furry wonder.
The cruel behavior is not limited to designer dogs. This is why I will not ship or sell any of my puppies unless you visit my home where my dogs and puppies are raised. I want to make my own assessments of a potential client and I want them to be able to do the same to me.
Well said Joyce, I just wish the dogs in rescue would find homes too. Up until my current two dogs, I have always done the rescue way, I love my girls but still have a sadness to know many dogs, good dogs are being thrown away each and every day.

I, too, always had rescues and for almost two years, I tried to get a second dog to be a companion for the one we had at home. I love mixed breeds but unfortunately, we also ran a couple of home businesses that had people here all the time. The ‘type’ of rescue had to be one that would not be a frightening one to ‘non-dog’ people. Many of our customers would not get out of their cars if they saw a Pitbull mix, black dog, Shepherd or any large breed. I tried for two years and our local shelters could not provide one that I could take. Plus, I had to be careful about temperament as there were always children around as well.
After we received a Golden from a family member, I kept that breed. When they became rampant with Cancer, I opted to purchase an American Labradoodle and have not looked back. I had everything I always wanted in a dog – non-shedding, lovely temperament and a ‘dog of mixed breeds’!
