EPA say NO to Debarking

August 8, 2009

Victoria’s  Environmental Protection Agency did not accept the recent debarking of the Rutland Manor dogs as a resolution and have issued New Covenant Corporation Pty Ltd a penalty infringement notice in the amount of   $5, 671 (the cost of about 2-3 puppies). The fine was for failing to comply with the requirements in the minor works pollution abatement notice which was issued by the EPA in December 2008.

Rutland Manor was given approximately 7 months to comply with the notice – which involved some minor alterations to the kennels to ensure they were soundproof (see page on Debarking).

Rutland Manor chose to debark their dogs instead. Forcing the dogs to undergo throat surgery has not achieved what Rutland Manor had hoped for and the EPA did not accept this cruel procedure inflicted on the dogs as part of their requirements to ensure compliance.

Rutland Manor can now choose to pay the fine or have the matter taken to court.

I’m guessing that the work required would have cost the proceeds from a week or two’s litters judging by the over 400 puppies Rutland Manor produced in 2005. Instead she forced the mothers to suffer a barbaric and now obviously useless operation.
It’s ALWAYS the workers that pay when the factory is in trouble.

So Beverley’s beautiful dogs have paid the ultimate and permanent price for Beverly trying to find a quick fix easy solution to the noise of her dogs crying out in frustration, loneliness and boredom. Now in addition to the Vet (debarking costs) and hopefully future fines for such an illegal and cruel undertaking and the EPA fine, Beverly still has the same problem.

While I have no sympathy for Beverley finding herself in this position which has been caused simply because of her own pure and selfish greed, I find it heartbreaking that these beautiful dogs have lost their ability to ever again communicate because the one who claims to love and care for them has sold them out permanently trying to save a few bucks. Pity we couldn’t legally de-voice you Beverly.
