When is a puppy farm not a puppy farm?

February 14, 2010

Some puppy farmers simply cannot accept that they are puppy farmers! Most of you would have read Beverley’s paper (with added words of genius from Adele Lindley) on “The solutions to the Puppy Mill Dilemma”

In just one year over 400 puppies were born at Rutland Manor. Is that a puppy farm ?

Remember Rutlands Alecia, in 4 years she had 9 litters – 52 puppies, then she was shot. Was she a companion animal or a factory worker on a puppy farm?

What about Tara purchased from the Trading Post classifieds, 2 years- 4 litters- 34 puppies. One of those puppies Rutland’s Charlemagne was offered for sale to a breeder in UK for thousands. How much would you pay for a dog from the trading post?

And remember these words of wisdom that appeared on Rutland Manor’s website last year

As a general rule, it is Rutland Manors breeding policy to breed only two litters from each female, or three if we have been unable to keep a daughter to carry on her mother’s line due to an extra long wait list. Beverley Manners 2009 (Beverley removed the link to this page two days after it was posted here).

Doesn’t sound like a puppy farmer does it ?

Well what about poor Sunnie. Sunnie was born on 17th April 2007, she was mated to Rutlands WH Mon Ami when she was only 10 months old and whelped her first litter on 8th May 2008. She had another litter in May 2009 and here she is again due in mid March 2010. Kirstie and Beauty who only had litters 7 months ago are also due to whelp again in Feb/March 2010.

And how can we forget that Rutland Manor is an “international dog business which brings in over a million dollars annually

So how can Beverley write a paper on the solutions to the puppy mill dilemma when she is part of the dilemma?

UPDATE: 23/2/10 Sunnie has given birth to 5 puppies today, Kirstie gave birth to 7 puppies on the 19/2/10. We pray that their lives as a breeding machines is over and that Beverley finds it in her heart to desex them and let them be.

UPDATE: Lockie gave birth to 6 puppies on 24/2/10. Beauty gave birth to 9 puppies 26/2/10 – RM now have 27 puppies and more to come – Not a puppy farm ? Not breeding to fulfill a market? What a disgrace to use these dogs in this way.

UPDATE: 13/3/10 Dancer gave birth to 7 puppies 12th March. RM up to 34 puppies now !

There is no puppy farm dilemma, just a decision every one of us needs to make, DO NOT BUY from them

When so many puppies are born that they can’t keep pedigrees and health records straight, obviously there’s a problem. Rutland Manor is a puppy mill and Beverley Manners is out of control.

They won’t keep the health records straight if they did there would be less puppies around, and really, what is a pedigree for – how can you have a pedigree for a cross breed dog that has water spaniel, Irish Soft Coated Wheaten and American Cocker as part of their ‘infusion’. Which I may add is findable on a rolling picture display. Plus of course the number of pure bred poodles to correct coats as the website often stated – so my question remains “What is a Pedigree”?

What is a pedigree indeed? I’m a marketing man and some of the tricks used to sell puppies beggar belief. Its not just Beverley Manners but the people who bought from her and Angela Cunningham. Obviously fake testimonials, heavy reliance on allergy friendliness, which if you have not even been tested by a specialist or even allowed to visit before purchase is just dangerous. My company would be prosecuted if we tried to promote consumer goods like this!
The UK forums are full of people who only post to say how fantastic their breeder is when they are transparently the breeder themselves. Business must be bad! When companies get desperate they take risks with consumer legislation. If a UK company takes a deposit from you they guarantee to deliver the product and cannot back out, promises that they will not sell to unsuitable buyers who have paid deposit cannot be made.
Beverley’s business and breeding practices are like a bad dose of flu, easily caught if you are near her.
Most of the british breeders are selling what are called 50/50 australian labradoodles, just how much of a pedigree can these have?

She will forever be delusional on this issue, because of her experience with dog judging she feels entitled to be the expert on dog breeding, HA!! Rutland Manor is still a large scale breeding facility no matter how fancy her webpage is, the reality she is no better than the dog mills that have been exposed by Debra. Too many dogs bred back to back, not to mention the debarking scandal, which really sealed the deal for me. She will not stop for if she did there would not be an audience for her to spew her crap to, not to mention the groupies that follow her no matter what evidence comes to light. Although I think she does still breed for the money, I believe she breeds mainly for the attention, for without it she would have no one.

The issue of a pedigree is a joke with these dogs, first the dogs used to make up the mix must be pedigreed and we all know she won’t devulge the names of the dogs she used. So what we have are made up names with no known backgrounds that can be looked up, not to mention the health hx of these dogs. So, the whole idea of a pedigreed made up mix is a joke. And I fell for it hook line and sinker.
